“My hands, stained with the soil, are a testament to this direct, unfiltered dialogue with the planet”
Peter Voulkos
My "Gravel" series began as an exploration of the overlooked. I started with a simple idea: what if the discarded clay trimmings from my work weren't waste, but a new opportunity? By reattaching them to the ceramic pieces, I created a visual metaphor for finding meaning in the parts of ourselves we leave behind. It’s a series about returning to who we are, understanding that change is a natural part of life.
The surfaces of these pieces are meant to evolve. Small pieces of "gravel" will chip away, just as we all experience growth and change on our own paths. This isn't a flaw; it's a feature. Like a tree that becomes mulch or a rock that becomes gravel, the essence remains, transformed into something new and necessary.
